Niamh is an accomplished US and UK expert in media law, admitted to the bar in both the US and the UK, with experience that includes contract drafting and negotiation, content review/compliance, copyright and trademark issues, and work on litigation matters. She has performed US and UK legal work for many of our film and TV clients, including All3Media, Plan B Entertainment, Raw TV, Lightbox, Firecracker Films, October Films and Arrow Media, on projects for Discovery, Netflix, CNN, HBO, Channel 4 and the BBC, and other networks and studios. Before joining SmithDehn LLP, she qualified as UK solicitor, with years of experience dealing effectively with both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters. Niamh is also a top-ranked graduate of "The Law and Business of Film and Television," a graduate-level, University of Ulster/SmithDehn LLP media law program taught by the Chief Counsel at HBO, the former VP for Legal Affairs at Discovery, the Head of Legal at Channel 4, top in-house lawyers from 20 Century Fox and the BBC, and leading members of SmithDehn LLP. Prior to completing an additional traineeship with Northern Ireland's largest and most prestigious media law firm, Niamh obtained a First Class Honours degree in Law with French from Queen’s University Belfast, and a Masters degree in "Innovation, Technology and the Law" from the University of Edinburgh, where she graduated with Distinction and developed expertise in various aspects of sports law, internet law and media law. She regularly attends television and film industry conferences and markets such as MIPCOM, Televisual Factual, the Cannes International Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival.
